D\u00e9laissant la po\u00e9sie qui puisait son inspiration dans le pittoresque et le folklore, il s&rsquo;engage r\u00e9solument dans une voie r\u00e9volutionnaire, tant par le fond que par la forme. Ainsi s&rsquo;expliquent les appr\u00e9ciations divergentes, et quelquefois passionn\u00e9es, que suscite son \u0153uvre dense et une, qui surgit d&rsquo;une recherche p\u00e9n\u00e9trante et solitaire de la vie quotidienne en ce qu&rsquo;elle a de plus imm\u00e9diat et d&rsquo;apparemment insignifiant. Con\u00e7u comme un <em>\u00abpaysage moral\u00bb<\/em>, scrut\u00e9 par une intelligence aigu\u00eb au service d&rsquo;une sensibilit\u00e9 fr\u00e9missante et contenue, le quotidien r\u00e9v\u00e8le sa trame secr\u00e8te et profonde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sa vocation se d\u00e9clare d\u00e8s l&rsquo;adolescence. Apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;\u00e9tablissement de sa famille \u00e0 Belo Horizonte, en 1920, il s&rsquo;y lie avec les milieux litt\u00e9raires et journalistiques et publie ses premi\u00e8res \u0153uvres. Ayant termin\u00e9 ses \u00e9tudes de pharmacie, il se marie en 1925, s&rsquo;essaye \u00e0 l&rsquo;enseignement, puis fait carri\u00e8re de fonctionnaire et de journaliste, tout en composant une \u0153uvre qui lui vaut d&rsquo;\u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme le plus grand des po\u00e8tes br\u00e9siliens, et qui comprend\u00a0<em>Quelques po\u00e8mes<\/em>, 1930;\u00a0<em>Mar\u00e9cage des \u00e2mes<\/em>, 1934;\u00a0<em>Sentiment du monde<\/em>, 1940;\u00a0<em>La Rose du peuple<\/em>, 1945;\u00a0<em>Jos\u00e9<\/em>, 1948;\u00a0<em>Po\u00e9sie nouvelle<\/em>, 1948; <em>Claire \u00e9nigme<\/em>, 1951;\u00a0<em>Guitare de poche<\/em>, 1952;\u00a0<em>Fermier de l&rsquo;air<\/em>, 1953; <em>Ma Vie au propre<\/em>, 1959;\u00a0<em>Le\u00e7on de choses<\/em>,
